Getting started
How to install a Hero Studios mod
Most Hero Studios mods are Fabric mods. The same recipe works for every one of them.
- Install the Fabric Loader for your exact Minecraft version and download the matching Fabric API (each product's downloads page notes if it needs it).
- Launch the game once with the Fabric profile so it creates the folders below.
- Quit the game, then drop the mod's .jar into the mods folder for your platform (below).
- Launch again with the same Fabric profile — the mod appears in the Mod Menu / hero client mod list when present.
- Resource packs (like DPT) go into the resourcepacks folder instead, then enable them in-game.
Always match the mod build to your Minecraft version — each product page lists its exact matrix.
By platform
Where the folders live on every device
| Platform | Launcher(s) | mods folder | config folder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | Vanilla, Fabric, CurseForge, Prism, MultiMC | %appdata%\.minecraft\mods | %appdata%\.minecraft\config |
| macOS | Vanilla, Fabric, Prism, MultiMC | ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods | ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/config |
| Linux | Vanilla, Fabric, Prism, MultiMC | ~/.minecraft/mods | ~/.minecraft/config |
| Mobile / console / Bedrock | — | Java Edition mods cannot run on Bedrock, mobile, or console. Want a Bedrock port or a special variant? Request a custom commission. | |
Using MultiMC or Prism? The path is Instances/<instance>/.minecraft/mods inside the launcher folder.
Configuration
How configuration works
Hero Studios mods configure in two places — both are in the config folder from the table above:
- Files — e.g. creepers-eat-you.json5. Edit them while the game is closed; most reload on next launch.
- In-game screens — Hero Client & HeroSync add their own settings screens (and a config keybind); check the Mod Menu entry for each product.
JSON5 is just JSON that tolerates comments and trailing commas — safe to edit by hand. Each product's documentation lists its exact keys and defaults.
